Hi DUGs,
Thanks to those who sent messages, asking how I was after last week's meeting. I really wasn't well enough to be there, but I didn't want to miss it... and I'm so glad I didn't. Seemed to get over it (whatever it was!?) after a couple of days, and feeling much better now.

Workshop

Last week's workshop was a great success. Sarah packed such a lot into the session, it will take us a while to work through it all. She has sent us plenty of notes, worksheets, and video links. These can all be found in the Members' Area of the DUG website: 2026 WorkshopsTo get the most out of these sessions, it would be of great benefit if we all spend some time looking through these, and following up with some practice.

I also took some videos of the session. These will take some time to edit and process. I will add them to the 2026 folder as I complete them.
The first one, Sweet Child of Mine - Chorus, is ready now.

Future Workshop Dates

The following dates have provisionally set for the remaining 2026 workshops:

May - 20th
September  - 2nd
November - 18th

Town Break Dementia - Wednesday, 1st April

North Parish Church, Braehead Stirling, 1.30-2.30pm

We have been asked to return to the Town Break Dementia Group for their Easter Tea Dance.
Our performance there last year was one of our most enjoyable gigs. Our singing and playing was superb. The audience were great too. Singing along, dancing, clapping, and getting well involved. I came out the hall smiling from ear to ear! I am hoping enough of us will be available for this, our first performance of 2026.

Pauline has sent a WhatsApp message out, asking if you can take part. If you can be there, please let Pauline Know. Having an idea of numbers makes it easier for me to plan (and a little less stressful!) Thanks.

Doune Music Night 2026 - Saturday, 16th May

Doune Primary School, 7-10pm
Following the massive success of last year's Doune Music Night, the organisers are planning another event in May this year. This was another great event for us, playing to a packed hall, with the audience clapping and singing along. I'll get more details to you nearer the event, but please put the date in your diary.

New Song

John McPherson has suggested a new song for us, and it is a really nice one.
Moonlight Shadow by Mike Oldfield, with beautiful vocals by Maggie Reilly.

The song sheet is here:

As always, if you are not familiar with the song, it's good to have a listen to it first.
Mike Oldfield's original is here:

John sent me lovely cover version by Emily Linge, which is also lovely, and worth a listen:

There is a nice Play-along video on YouTube:
(You will need to put a capo on your 4th fret. Sounds a bit odd at first, but it works)

Playlist

As a warm-up, we'll start with a little re-cap from last week's workshop.
Then, obviously, with songs we're currently working on.
Following on from there, just a random selection of songs I like to hear the group playing.
Think you could do better? Please, please, please, I'm still calling out for volunteers to choose future playlists. Give me a shout, if you're up for it!

DUG Song Sheets

Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
