Hi DUGs,
There’s plenty happening this week, from Sarah’s return for another lively workshop to our beginners building confidence chord by chord. Thanks, as always, for the energy, encouragement and good humour you bring along — it’s what keeps the group sounding great and feeling so welcoming.
Workshop with Ukulele Saz
Sarah is back this week for another workshop, so get ready for a fun and focused session.
She’ll be working through Whistle for the Choir and Sweet Child O' Mine, picking up from where we left off last time. I’m sure you’ve all been getting plenty of practice in, so it should all come together nicely!
The song sheets and notes from the last session are available in the Members’ Area of the website: https://e-voice.org.uk/douneuke/members-area/ukulele-workshops/2026-workshops/
Beginners' Sessions
Last week our beginners added two more chords to their growing arsenal — C and G7 — which, along with F, opened up a huge number of songs for them.
They put their new chords to immediate use by learning Feelin' Groovy and Hound Dog.
I’d like to thank again the more experienced players who came along to assist, encourage and help everyone feel at ease.
This week we’ll add another new chord: Dm. It’s a little bit trickier, but the easy transitions between G7, F and Dm should help put it to good use.
We’ll learn another new song and, depending on time, I might even introduce the Island Strum. At this early stage, though, we’ll mostly concentrate on chord changes and simple strumming.
The beginners’ session will start again at 6.45pm and finish before the main meeting begins at 7.30pm (bearing in mind that we may need a little time to set the seats out for Sarah’s workshop).
Loch Lomond Strumday
We played through five or six potential songs for the Strumday last week. Whatever we decide, I know we won’t please everybody, but I’m sure we’ll put on a great performance as usual.
We have narrowed the selection down to Teach Your Children, and either Friday I'm In Love or Teenage Kicks.
We can play them through again next week and make a final decision. It should be a good chance to settle on something that feels strong, confident and fun to perform.
Dunblane Dementia
We haven’t played at Dunblane Dementia since October last year, so it would be lovely to return. They have asked if we can join them on Friday, 9th October, between 1.30 and 3.00pm.
