Hi DUGs,
Well, here we are, it's October. That can only mean one thing... Christmas Songs!!!
Just kidding. I promise, no carols until after Halloween. Which, by the way, is only five weeks away. Time to practice some of those songs?

New Members

Our membership has been growing steadily over recent months. I don't think we'll need a bigger hall, just yet, but is encouraging to see this growth. We have certainly come a long way since half a dozen of us met in my front room!

On Wednesday we welcomed Derek Lothian. Some of the Doune locals would recognise Derek as the delivery driver for Doune Pharmacy and, until recently, Evri deliveries. Derek is a complete beginner, as many of us were when we joined DUGs. Please help and encourage him as you always do with new starters (which, by the way, is one of the things I am most proud of with this group!)

Loch Lomond Strumday

All the preparation and all the rehearsals will finally come to fruition on Sunday. I am so looking forward to the day.

For those of you attending for the first time, it will be quite an experience. Singing and strumming along with over a hundred other ukululeists, then performing in front of them - wow!

Unfortunately, due to family commitments, James will be unable to join us, so we have a spare ticket for the event.
If you are interested, let me know - first come, first served.

Findhorn Ukulele Festival

For me, the Findhorn festival was a Curate's Egg (Google it).
Some of the workshops were way over my head, and there was far too much solo ukulele in the performances.

But the good bits were really good!
Most of the highlights involved a very talented young lady most of you know.
Sarah (Ukulele Saz) made the whole weekend an amazing experience. From the introduction to the event, leading the Big Strum, and three outstanding workshops, culminating in the finale, including all of us joining together and performing the two songs we learned in the workshops.

Like all these events, meeting up and spending time with ukulele players from all over the country (world) just makes you privileged to be part of our ukulele community.

Playlist

Yes, this week's playlist will include Home and This is the Life! But after the Loch Lomond Day, I promise, we'll have a little break from both songs.

We won't have any new songs for the next week or two. I'd like to work on some of our most recent additions to our song book, and one or two older ones that need a little polish.

If you get any time, I would urge you to listen to as many of the original songs, as many times as possible. Really knowing the songs is the key to good performance.

Home
This is the Life
Fisherman's Blues
I'll Tell Me Ma (the Sham-Rock version is worth a listen)
It's Raining Again
Mr Tambourine Man (The Byrds' version)
I'm a Believer
Hose of the Rising Sun

We should have time for you to choose some of your favourites in the second half. Have a look at the song book before the meeting and pick one or two - so we can spend our time playing, rather than deliberating 😏

DUG Song Sheets

Now that we are no longer using printed song sheets at our meetings, all new songs will be put on the website, rather than attached to these emails. If you want to practice any of our songs, you can view/download all our songs here: Our Songs
