Bramford to Twinstead network reinforcement including sub-station on border of Bulmer Tye and Twinstead: start of public consultation

Proposals to reinforce the electricity transmission network between Bramford substation in Suffolk and Twinstead, south of Sudbury in Essex.

The non-statutory consultation will be held for six weeks between 25 March 2021 and 6 May 2021.

Our plans for community engagement

We are inviting community and technical stakeholders to give us their feedback on our proposals. In line with current government guidelines, we are using a mix of both digital and traditional consultation methods to ensure everyone has the opportunity to view the consultation information and to take part in our consultation.

The consultation feedback will be carefully considered as we develop our detailed design for the project. We will hold a further statutory consultation on our final proposals before submitting an application for a Development Consent Order (“DCO”) that would seek the permissions and powers required to undertake the project.

We are writing to residents along the route of the project and will publish relevant consultation documents on our project website. They will be available from 25 March 2021 at We will send paper copies on request to anyone who is unable to access them online.

We will also host a series of online webinars, live chat and telephone call back sessions. Local residents and stakeholders will be able to engage directly with members of the project team and to ask questions about how the proposals will affect them.

The need for the project

We need to build this new 400,000 volt reinforcement to overcome a bottleneck on the network and increase network capability in the region. It will carry new cleaner, greener energy that is proposed in East Anglia and will support the Government’s ambitious net zero targets.

If you have any questions before we meet, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Please email me on or call the freephone information line on 0808 196 1515.
