Wrangle.
Wrangle is a parish near the sea-shore, in the wapentake of Skirbeck, Boston union, parts of Holland, diocese and arch-deaconry of Lincoln and deanery of Holland, 9 miles North-north-east from Boston, 5 miles from the East Lincolnshire railway at Langrick station and 117 miles from London. In 1851 there were 1196 inhabitants and 6890 acres of land.
The church, named St. Peter and St. Paul, is a handsome stone building with nave, chancel, square tower and 6 bells. In the chancel are the recumbent effigies of Sir John and Lady Reid. The living is a vicarage, worth £868 per annum, with residence, in the gift of and held by Reverend R.F. Wright M.A. The register dates from the year 1653.
There are in the parish three small chapels, two belonging to the Wesleyans and one to the Primitive Methodists.
The Rev. Thomas Allenson bequeathed land now producing £120 per annum, one moety of which is applied for teaching poor children, and the other for the maintenance of 5 poor people.
The Messrs.Swain, Chapman, Lilly, Torgoose and Taylor are the chief landowners.
There are charities of about £50 annual value.
Lowgate, Bank, Low Grounds, Toft, Old Haws and Sea End are farms.
