Although there are currently no regular volunteering opportunities, there are many ways you can help the Wild About Huntingdon project.

Examples include:

  • Saving & growing plants (some of which would often be disposed of) which can then be shared with the community -  eg.  strawberry runners, plants which have been divided like perennials and rhubarb, taking cuttings of flowers and herbs, baby spider plants etc
  • Growing native trees from seed, nurturing them at home until they're large enough to be donated to the tree nursery at Hinchingbrooke Country Park for planting around the district.
  • Joining in with planting or litter picking events.  Keep an eye on the events page here and on the @Wild About Huntingdon Facebook page.
  • Skilled Woodworking - Let me know if you would be able to make any bird boxes, hedgehog houses, bug hotels etc from salvaged wood, which can be donated to families, businesses, schools and community groups around Huntingdon.
  • Spread the Word & lead by example - Many people don't realise there is a nature crisis, that 1 in 7 species in the UK are at risk of extinction.  Nature doesn't have a voice so we need to spread the word.  Pop a sign in your garden to show it's a wildlife area.  Share posts on social media.  Encourage your friends and family to do something in their garden or to join in with an event.  Most of all, keep it fun and interesting!  There are some incredible facts about our native wildlife.  Share the info so that other people see the wow factor.  It's only when we love nature that we will strive to protect it.
