New Community Orchard Tree Planting

Friday 27 February 2026
10:00 to 14:00

I am so excited about this!
It's been a long haul to get to this stage and it wouldn't be possible without the massive support of Huntingdonshire District Council and Huntingdon Town Council and I am truly grateful to them. ❤
HDC own the land and are providing the trees - four apple trees, three pear trees and two plum trees. HTC will water the tree weekly throughout the summer to give them the best chance of survival.
Wild About Huntingdon are purchasing some slow release tree watering bags to also help if conditions are hot and dry. In time, I would also like to erect bird nesting boxes, bug hotels and information signage. There is a potential to hold educational events at the site in the future.
Traditional orchards are classed as a 'priority habitat' in the UK due to their immense value for biodiversity, supporting rare invertebrates, bats, birds, fungi, and lichens, especially through the unique decaying wood features that develop in older fruit trees.
I hope this will be the legacy.
And, of course, in times of hardship they will produce healthy, organic FREE fruit for the local community.
If you'd like to take part in the creation of something special, please join us for tree planting on 27th February 2026 from 10am.
The site is the green area on Oak Drive near to the Oak Tree Centre and Sapley shops.
Thank you!
