In about 1900, a wealthy local resident Mrs Sophia E Wickham (grand-mother of the late Lady Charlotte Helen Bonham-Carter) decided that the village of Binsted should have a village hall. Accordingly she donated a piece of land and financed the building of the present hall. In November 1900 the building (now named “The Wickham Institute”) was officially opened. In May 1901 Mrs Wickham transferred the ownership of the land to the Winchester Diocesan Trustees. The day to day running of the hall is undertaken by a Management Committee consisting of a number of local residents.

The Wickham Institute is a Grade II listed building and became a registered charity in 2002.

Today it is run by volunteers and trustees for the good of the Parish of Binsted and surrounding area

The Wickham Institute Binsted is a registered charity (Charity number 1090864)
