On This Day in Wembury – 2 August 1945
A Pale Clouded Yellow butterfly was recorded at Wembury by D. G. Mackie. This species is far rarer in Britain than its more common relative, the Clouded Yellow, and sightings in Devon had been almost unheard of over the previous 70 years. Its appearance at Wembury highlights how migrant insects occasionally reach the South Hams coastline on favourable winds from the continent.
