This project has been funded by the Centre for the South – New Things Fund, fostering a unique collaboration between the University of Southampton’s Energy and Climate Change Division and CPREs Hampshire and Sussex. The partnership has built on previous work carried out by the University of Southampton and CPREs Rooftop Renewable campaign.

Aims of Rooftop Solar event
· Explore the huge potential of rooftop solar – and its benefits for residents and communities - in Hants and Sussex.
· Advocate for a rooftop-first approach for PV, which prioritises ‘grey spaces’ over ‘green fields.
· Showcase the Southampton University model and methodology to encourage the mapping rooftop potential of the whole UK.
· Engage decision-makers locally and nationally in thinking about the changes (policy/financial /practical/other) needed at both scales to deliver a rooftop revolution.
· Bring together stakeholders to feed into Local Area Energy Plans and collaborate on delivering rooftop solar projects in ‘hotspots’ in Hampshire and Sussex identified by the mapping.

· Sustainability/energy/planning officers and relevant portfolio-holding Cllrs from all the district/borough/county/city councils

· Solar industry reps, esp. the trade association – Solar Energy UK
· Academics, incl. the UCL team who did CPRE’s England-wide scoping.

· Explore local and national policies and actions that can accelerate the rollout of cost-effective rooftop solar, including the role of Local Area Energy Plans
· Identify the ‘hotspots’ in your area with the potential for rooftop PV investment, and meet other expert rooftop solar stakeholders who can help you to get these projects off the ground.
