Southport Chrysanthemum and Gardening Society

We welcome back Greg Anderton to talk to us about Christmas. You may have seen Greg at the 2024 and 2025 Southport Flower Show with his Gold Medal winning stands.

Greg has been an enthusiastic gardener since he was a small child when he was photographed in his grandparents garden clutching a watering can, all of his family were keen gardeners and he learned as he grew up by helping them.  Even at school he was using plant stalls at fairs and fetes to raise funds for various projects and this led to studying business at Edge Hill to kick start his career.  His connection with Lytham in Bloom started with obtaining sponsorship to refurbish some neglected flower beds outside the fire station, and he soon saw results in starting his business.  

In 2014 he had 6 commercial clients, now he has around 50 and is always looking to expand and inspire other young people to follow his example.  During his studies at Edge Hill he was often asked to undertake garden design projects but refused until his qualifications were complete when he accepted his first commission on graduation day and since then has undertaken over 20 garden projects in Lytham from large grounds to small courtyards, all of which have given him a huge amount of pleasure.

As the result of a chance remark made during setting up to give a talk at Lytham Hall he was given the chance to start a small garden centre on the site and his association with the hall has gone from strength to strength ever since, and is now the Garden Hub attracting many visitors who admire the plantings and are delighted to receive advice on growing the plants that they purchase, as well as wider issues that the hub team are always pleased to discuss.
