Rum Community Association

In the May 2024 RCA meeting the community was approached by NatureScot (NS) to produce a 'Place Plan'. A Local Place Plan is a community-led document that aims to easily convey a community’s proposals for the development or use of land and buildings in their local area. Consultancy Northern Light were commissioned by NatureScot to work with IRCT/RCA to produce a Place Plan. The first draft was submitted to the Highland Council in Nov 2025, Highland Council replied Aug 2026 asking for additional information, their requests are in a pdf in this folder. Northern Light produced an amended draft in response to this, also a pdf in this folder, concluding their work on this document. As of 22nd Aug 2026 IRCT was in discussions about their eligibility to own the document, RCA has offered to support this as a collaborator. We are awaiting an outcome on these discussions. We are hopeful that the Place Plan will draw out new ideas from the community, document current ideas, make Rum eligible for future grants/funding as well as get people excited about the islands future opportunities.
