Inside the box

 PRINCES RISBOROUGH NORTH SIGNAL BOX

Lever frameThe view shown here is of the Operating Floor at the north end of the box. Currently this section controls the ground signals and points for the Chinnor Railway Heritage Trains that run past the rear of the box. Only six levers are needed at present and these are highlighted between the yellow lines.

If we are able to get planning consent to build an internal staircase, we intend to turn this end into a working simulator of mechanical signalling. We will then be able to open it to our steam train passengers when they arrive at Princes Risborough. They will be able to interact with the simulator and set the signals for their engine to run round its carriages and then take the train back to Chinnor. Exactly as the signalman in the other end of the signal box will be doing!

There is much more information about this and the future, as well as historical photos of the past and how the restoration has progressed so far on the dedicated website for the Signal Box.  Click on the link below to visit the site.
