About Our Club
The club was formed in 1976 by a dozen or so model enthusiasts as a ‘spin off’ of the Avon Cosmetics Model Club. Sailing took place on the water in front of the factory.
Originally all the members were into IC power boats and multi racing in particular. Racing took place at Billing Aquadrome and later in Beckets Park and many regattas were held.
Whilst the club now mainly consists of ‘scale modellers’ we still have a small number of multi racers who have excelled at both national and international levels.
Over the years we have sailed at many locations including those already mentioned and now have our home water at Earls Barton where we have private facilities and can hold competitions and invite other clubs to sail with us. Our competitions are meant to be fun! We sail on Sundays throughout the dry months and also on alternate Tuesday evenings. We are often invited to other clubs to both exhibit and sail. We have organised major events in the past including the MPBA scale finals. We have, at least, a dozen events planned each year at various venues, some of which we take our portable pond along.
We meet at the Kingsley Park Working Men's Club on Kingsley Park Terrace on a fortnightly basis when we bring in our latest models under construction and chat about them. Check our Events page for the date of the next meeting. Whilst we are a relatively small club, we have a few hundred years of modelling experience between us. Meetings are kept as informal as possible and sometimes include visiting speakers on a variety of maritime topics. We build a variety of craft of different scales, and it is not unusual to see a 1:12 lifeboat beside a 1:72 puffer.
We are a friendly club who encourage new members and above all we have FUN.
