Visit to Springfield Farm, Butlers Cross - 11 June 2024
We arrived with waterproofs and heavy footwear after a very wet afternoon. Fortunately the weather cleared and the evening was fine.
We were greeted by Annabel and Allan Westray who gave us a brief history of how they had developed the garden while we enjoyed a glass of wine or cordial with home made savoury biscuits.
This 2 ½ acre local garden is divided into rooms by beech hedging which made a lovely backdrop to the borders . The deep shrub and herbaceous borders had some beautiful displays of traditional flowers including some stunning delphiniums.
Tall hedges also surrounded the rose garden which was filled with David Austin roses with a pretty arbour as its focal point.
This led into another open area with more herbaceous borders and some beautiful trees and unusual plants such as the golden Indian bean tree.
A small bridge over the stream led to a wilder area with a meadow and a path back to the house via a small vegetable and cut flower garden.
