Messy Vintage is both for those who can gather at a church or community centre for worship, crafts and tea as well as for residents in care homes where a Messy Vintage team brings the service and activities to their door.
Key aspects to 'Messy Vintage':
- It enables older people know they are part of something bigger
- It is about being ‘a blessing’
- Themes each month may be repeated across all the regular Messy Churches and Messy Vintage services run in a given area
- Worship often releases the voice of older people: this is church for the voiceless
- Wherever it takes place it is also a church creating sacred space
- Food should be as special and beautiful as the people involved are special and beautiful
- Stories emerge of how teams have blossomed on their own discipleship journey by being involved with Messy Church and Messy Vintage
- In care homes, normally in a morning session, a lot of time is given to the crafts which lead to plenty of one-to-one conversations
- There is much scope for further development, particularly linked with schools and memory projects around the country
- It is another example of Messy Church being missional
