We had intended to continue with a dry-stone wall along the entire length of the remaining Top Wall. But after much deliberation, it was decided to rebuild as another masonry wall. There was much stone, soil and debris to be removed to expose the foundations before rebuilding could commence. But once started, progress was swift, with the volunteers mixing barrowloads of cement once again. Graham provided us with some more home-made toppers to match the originals for the top, and we employed ‘Andy’ to take away several tonnes of unwanted and useless stone to be crushed. The remaining good building stone was donated to other interested parties, and the volunteers were then able to start tidying the graves and the area in front of the new wall.
