News Update for 2025
VIP Visit
On 12th April this year, we were proud to welcome Prof Adeeba Malik CBE DL to the cemetery. At the time of her visit, she held the position of High Sheriff of West Yorkshire (later awarded the title of Lord Lieutenant in September). In this role she supported the work of community volunteer groups and helped our builder, Bob, to lay a commemorative stone and plaque in the newly rebuilt wall within the cemetery.
She was amazed at the work that our volunteers had done and praised the group on their commitment to restore the heritage of the cemetery and create a beautiful open space for the community to enjoy.
The visit was reported in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper.

A display of contemporary artworks was commissioned to create ‘Wild Uplands’ - an open-air gallery on the moors of Penistone Hill Country Park. When the artworks were dismantled at the end of the summer, local groups were invited to offer new homes for them. We were very lucky for our application to be successful and we now have a beautiful butterfly in the cemetery!
The butterfly was part of the “99 Butterflies” display. Artist Meherunnisa Asad, in collaboration with Studio Lél carved the butterfly from pink marble sourced from Pakistan, the works being inspired by Bradford’s stories of migration and movement and the resilience of its natural landscape.
