Thomas was born in Eccleshill in 1820, the son of Joseph and Ruth Lambert, who now rest in Section1 (location B11) of the cemetery. After the death of his father, Thomas and his mother lived in Belle Vue, Eccleshill. He married Jane Hopwood from the Rawdon area (born 1823) on the 17th February 1845. Together they raised six children – four sons and two daughters, while living at a house in the Bank, Eccleshill.
Thomas died at the age of 40 and Jane moved with their youngest daughter Ann to live in Mill Lane, Eccleshill (now known as Victoria Road). I was surprised to discover she had lived next door to my great-grandparents, Albert and Phebe Crossland. She remained there until her death in 1894.
Ann, the youngest of the Lambert children, married relatively late in life, at the age of 49, to Thomas Craggs, a widower of Chapel Walk, Eccleshill. They were married on 25th February 1904 and after their marriage moved to live in Thornton. Their marriage was short-lived as Thomas died four years later in 1908. He is buried in St Luke’s graveyard with his first wife Harriet and their children. Ann was still living in Thornton when she died in 1915.
Thomas, his wife Jane and their youngest daughter Ann are buried together in section3 of the cemetery.
