Richard was born in Pudsey in 1850 to Richard and Rebecca Lee, and the family moved to Eccleshill in the early 1860's. He married Emma nee Speight who was born in Eccleshill in 1852, the daughter of John Speight and Susannah nee Oddy. Richard and Emma may have been childhood sweethearts as they had lived close to each other in Moorside for nearly twenty years before their marriage in 1882.
Richard and Emma only had one child; a daughter Minnie who passed away in 1885 aged 20 months. Emma passed away in 1897 aged 45.
In 1899, Richard married Emily Jane Fox and they lived in Wightman Street, Undercliffe until his death in 1925.
Richard is buried with Emma and Minnie in section 4 of the cemetery.
Emma’s parents John and Susannah are also buried in section 4 of the cemetery. In the next grave along lies her grandmother Jane Oddy, her uncle Joseph and his wife Mary Ann. Unfortunately, neither of these graves has a headstone.
