John died in February 1884 at the age of 54 and is buried in section 3 with his wife Ann (nee Tideswell), two of his daughters and his mother-in-law Mary Ellen Waite (nee Thomas).
John was born in Eccleshill to Richard and Ann (nee Holmes) and married Ann Tideswell of Northowram in 1861. John was a butcher by trade just like his brother, father, uncles and grandfather and had shops in the Eccleshill/Undercliffe area.
His father, mother and family members are also buried in section 3 of the cemetery and their grave was ‘made safe’ by Graham Swain and his team in 2024.
His mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Tideswell married widower John Waite from Eccleshill. John Waite is buried in section 1 with his first wife and family.
