Evidence about building safety professionals
Now is the opportunity for you to tell the Government about your poor (and good if you have them) experirences of professionals supporting you with the new building safety requirements.
You can comment on Managing Agents, Fire Engineers, people doing risk assessments, and contractors carrying out works on fire doors, cladding and similar issues.
Friends in High Places will be asking the Government to consider including in the Buiding Safety Act responsiblities and legal sanctions on Managing Agents similar to those faced by volunteer directors of RTMs and RMCs. Volunteer directors need to be able to trust managing agents to carry out their role reasonably and responsibly, including keeping the golden thread of information; carrying out the required regular checks and commissioning remediation works; ensuring contractors are qualified to carry out works and supervising their work before payment is made; communicating effectively with residents and leaseholders; planning for works with effect timelines that allow for suitable funding through service charge or the building of reserve funds; being knowledgeable and professional, such as knowing the new legislation and what is required for things like Building Control.
This is the time for you to raise your voice and share your experience, and help shape government policy in this area.
