Essex Closed Singles– Sunday February 8, 2026
Essex held their annual Closed Singles Tournament at Great Bentley Village Hall on Sunday 8th February 2026. Sixty players from across the county took part.
After the group stages the group winners (Colin Spriggs, Paul Perkins, Paul Youngs, Andrew Whitney, Darren Wrenn & John Manning) and two best runners up (Peter Orrin & Robert Myall) went onto the quarter final knock out stages.
Paul Youngs beat Andrew Whitney: 8-6
John Manning beat Darren Wrenn: 8-4
Peter Orrin beat Paul Perkins: 7-3
Robert Myall beat Colin Spriggs: 6-2
In the first semi-final Peter Orrin beat Paul Youngs 8-5
In the second semi-final and extra end was needed with John Manning and Robert Myall equal after seven ends. Robert scored two on the additional end to win 7-5.
The final was also a close fought thing with Peter Orrin winning 7-6.
Many congratulations to our Singles winner Peter, who will now be invited to represent Essex in the Eastern Counties Champion of Champions to be played at Littleport on Sunday 10th May 2026 and at the English Champion of Champions to be played over the weekend of 6/7th June 2026 at the 'new' venue of Hartlepool Indoor Bowls Club.
Many thanks to those who took part, sold raffle tickets, worked in the kitchen, helped with setting up and packing away the equipment.
