π Special Seasonal Challenge: The Spooky Nature Forage & Halloween Prep!
Monday 26 October 2026
-
When: The week leading up to October 31st (Self-guided – visit anytime!)
-
Where: Across our community Open Spaces
Calling all volunteers, families, and friends! Our big Community Halloween Party is happening on Saturday, 31st October, and we need your help to dress up our space. Instead of buying plastic decorations, we are turning to the awesome, spooky materials that nature provides right on our doorstep!
Getting outside to forage is a wonderful way to slow down, clear your mind, and get creative. This week, your mission is to go on a mindful walk, gather some natural treasures, and craft something magical to bring to the party.
π΅οΈβοΈ Your Halloween Forage Mission:
Head out into the open spaces and keep your eyes peeled for these fallen natural crafting supplies:
-
The Witch's Broomsticks: Gather sturdy, fallen twigs and small branches from the ground.
-
Vampire Foliage: Look for giant, crunchy, brightly coloured autumn leaves (deep reds, golden oranges, and ghostly yellows).
-
Woodland Treasure: Collect fallen pinecones, empty acorn cups, and unique pieces of bark.
(π Important Eco-Detective Rule: Please only collect things that have already fallen to the ground! Leave living plants, moss, and berries exactly where they are so our wildlife can enjoy them.)
π§βοΈ Crafting Challenges to Bring to the Party:
- Ghostly Autumn Garlands: Paint spooky white ghost faces or funny monsters onto your giant collected leaves, thread them onto a piece of string, and bring your natural bunting to hang up.
- Mini Witch Brooms: Bundle your twigs together around a slightly thicker stick and tie them with twine to create classic, rustic witch brooms to decorate the tables.
- Pinecone Monsters: Add googly eyes, leaf wings, or twig arms to your pinecones to create an army of woodland creatures.
πΈ Snap & Share Your Progress!
- Snap a photo of your group foraging or show off your finished natural decorations.
- Head over to our Wildlife Tracker page and upload your picture so we can showcase our hard-working volunteer crew online.
