Digswell resident Ronald Maddox was a prominent artist who was President of the Royal Institute Of Painters In Water Colours from 1989 until 2014.
Ronald Maddox postage stamps for the Royal Mail featured Churches, Historic Buildings, Urban Renewal, Modern Architecture and Industrial Archeology. In the 1970s and 1980s, he travelled around Britain, producing drawings and paintings for the Post Office / Royal Mail, British Telecom and various other companies. For the series of postage stamps for the Village Churches collection, issued in 1972, he drew 50 different churches and 5 were selected.
