We were all concerned to hear about the torrential rain and devastating floods in southern France in October. Annonay was badly affected with floodwater pouring through the town and whole streets left under water. We have been in touch with friends there and sent our best wishes.

BACKNANG WEEKEND, 26TH / 27TH OCTOBER
There are strong, long standing twinning links between the Chelmsford based Caprice Wind Orchestra and the Stadtische Blasorchester Backnang and on Saturday 26th they joined up to put on another superb concert in Backnang. Pictured above are members of both orchestras before the concert.
The annual Backnang Goose Market took place on Sunday 27th. Real Geese are still in evidence, but now limited to three in a pen below the Goose Fountain near the Rathaus, while the ‘geese’ in the parade are now ably represented by young ballet students.
A small group of twinning members, including the Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Janette Potter, and an exchange group of students from Boswells School were in Backnang for the weekend. After the parade of ‘geese’ there were live stage performances all afternoon, market stalls around the whole town and the shops were open (something we take for granted in Chelmsford but a one off event for Backnang). All in all a really good atmosphere and a fun afternoon.
