Kingston Council replaced the previous grass beds, with flower beds in around 2005. The contractors Glendale, currently hold the contract to maintain many separate Parks and flower beds in and around Kingston, to cut back, and remove the garden rubbish created. Residents from the CROSS Home Zone, do attempt to keep down the overgrowth, but it is beyond the 10-15 people that attend our events once a month. To explain the issues we are experiencing with the flower beds in the Home Zone, I have gathered together some of the photos taken to explain:-
a) the height of the vegetation now after 20 years of growth
b) the prevalance of thorny plants, e.g. roses, hawthorn and naturally occurring brambles, blackberry and raspberry bushes
c) the difficulty for cars parking in the area when parking near these thorny plants - although we accept that the world is not here for cars alone, but the thorny bushes mean that cars are compelled to park slightly away from the bushes, so that drivers are able to exit their vehicle, especially when parking on the right hand side of the road. This then creates an effective narrowing of the road, to enable the possibility of exiting the car without incurring lascerations!
