Following a meeting of representatives of some seventeen local councils on 18 June 2025, the Chelmsford Association of Local Councils (CALC) was re-established. CALC brings together parish and town councils across the Chelmsford area to share information, coordinate responses to strategic issues, and strengthen the voice of local communities in discussions with district, county and regional bodies. The meeting elected the first CALC executive committee whose membership can be viewed here.
The newly reformed CALC will focus on improving parish engagement in planning and infrastructure decisions, exploring opportunities for direct funding and devolved budgets, and securing formal representation at strategic forums. It will also act as a point of contact for principal authorities and mayoral candidates seeking to consult with parish councils during the Local Government Reorganisation and the Greater Essex Devolution process.
Member councils plan to work together to protect local interests, build partnerships, and ensure communities are heard. CALC is arranging its first full members’ meeting shortly. There will be regular in person and online members’ meeting throughout the year.
If your parish council is not yet a member and would like to join CALC or learn more, please see https://e-voice.org.uk/chelmsfordalc/ or contact chair.chelmsfordalc@gmail.com for further information.
