A very Happy New Year to all our volunteers and readers.
After a very successful project decorating Beverley railway station for the festive period recent days have seen the removal of all decorations, leaving the station so clean and tidy you wouldn't know we had been there! All decorations which could be reused/recycled have been taken to Woodmansey. Numerous wreath bases have been carefully stored in the shed along with smaller decorations. The postbox and sleigh will stand covered in a protective tarpaulin. All foliage was packed into green waste bags for East Riding Council to recycle and the driftwood Christmas tree has been removed to the wildlife area to use for hanging bird feeders.
The New Year is a quieter time to allow for planning for seasons to come. Our planters around the town bring the promise of spring bulbs - daffodils and tulips, along with pansies which will flourish once the temperatures increase.Volunteers who look after the planters will continue to check on them to ensure that they look thier best and to remove any litter deposited. Planning will soon start for our spring bedding choices.
Work at the station has temporarily stopped to allow everyone a well earned rest. Once we resume later in the year there will be the ongoing task of border maintenance to continue with in addition to further work on the new wildlife area. We are looking forward to watching the new area develop and have spring bulbs potted up and ready to plant. We will notify everyone nearer the time when we plan to resume work and look forward to our weekly get-togethers for a bit of gentle gardening, a chat and a cuppa.
