WW1 Prints

To commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the Great War we commissioned Ochre Print Studio to produce four original screen prints inspired by legacy of WW1 and the impact it had on Surrey communities and families. In response, artists from across Surrey and beyond were invited to submit designs for consideration as a limited edition run of 40 prints.

There was a very strong response and a panel of judges representing APS, Ochre Print Studio and Surrey galleries made the selection of the four pieces to go to print.

Carl P S Hoare

Diagnosed with dyslexia at six years old, Carl used his passion for painting and drawing as a distraction from school life. After graduating from BA in Fine Art, he exhibited his work alongside Damien Hirst and Mark Ryden in many international cities from New York to Shanghai. Carl’s print shows the dead soldiers flying above the streets of Surrey whilst a poster of Lord Kitchener demands more men to sign up.

David Dragon

David’s graphic design is drawn by his more traditional route of inspiration; the advertising and creative industry. He has transposed this style into an image of The Women’s Land Army who stepped into industrial roles while men were at war. David researched period photographs bringing together details of dress and location through a series of sketches and colourways.
