On this day in Wembury, 23 July 1932

A small but lively notice in the Western Morning News announced that a brand new sea bathing pool at Heybrook Bay was now open for use. It was described as being midway between the Heybrook Bay bus from Plymouth and the Wembury Bay bus terminus, making it easy for summer visitors to reach on foot.
The enclosure was reserved for bathers and their friends, with teas and refreshments available. The advert promised a delightful spot where visitors could enjoy the fresh air and bask in the healthy sunshine of the bay. It also highlighted organised boating trips to the romantic Mewstone, which could be arranged from the pool by appointment, along with moonlight bathing parties that were becoming fashionable in the early 1930s.
The notice was placed by Mr Stansell, the estate office at Heybrook Bay, who was managing access and bookings. It offers a snapshot of the period when Heybrook and Wembury were actively promoting themselves as clean air, seaside leisure destinations, complete with novelty bathing pools and organised trips to the Mewstone.
