On This Day in Wembury – 27 July 1945
A Bath White butterfly was spotted at Wembury — part of one of the largest migrations of the species ever recorded in southern England. The Bath White, a striking migrant usually found in continental Europe, only rarely reaches Devon, and only about 30 individuals were seen across the county that year. Its sudden arrival at Wembury was a remarkable event for local naturalists.
