On this day in Wembury, 6 July 1895

The Western Morning News carried an advert for Snawdon Brothers, a long-established Plymouth firm of cabinetmakers, upholsterers and undertakers who also operated a factory at Yealmpton. The notice highlighted the range of household goods they supplied, from carpets and bedsteads to curtains, fenders and linoleum. They promoted London prices, quick attention and delivery arrangements, showing how rural communities along the Yealm were already tied into the wider Plymouth trade network by the late nineteenth century.

Although the advert is simple, it gives a glimpse of everyday life for households around Wembury and the Yealm. Local families would have known Snawdon Brothers as one of the main suppliers of furniture and fittings, and the presence of a factory at Yealmpton shows that production and craftsmanship were taking place close to home, not only in the city.
