On This Day in Wembury — February 29

It is an unusual date that only arrives once every four years but Wembury still finds a few stories to tell.
In 1804, George Ley, a widower and yeoman of Wembury, took out a marriage bond to marry Mary Dolling, a widow of the same parish.
In 1992, Kenneth Bungay of Wembury was remembered with affection, his memorial marking this rare date.
Even in recent years the village clock kept steady time as Wembury Plymouth Limited filed its accounts on 29 February 2024, showing that life and paperwork both continue when the calendar takes its leap.
A rare day perhaps, but one that still leaves its footprint in Wembury.
