On this day in Wembury — 22 January 1945

The Lord Chancellor presented the Reverend Kenneth Tagg to the vicarage of Wembury in the Diocese of Exeter. He had already been licensed by the Bishop of Plymouth in 1942 as priest in charge of the parish for the duration of the war.

Reverend Tagg later became known for his historical writing, most notably The Romantic Story of Wembury Church in Devonshire (1967), which explored the history, architecture, and community life surrounding St Werburgh’s Church. His blend of pastoral care and local scholarship helped preserve Wembury’s story for future generations.
