On this day in Wembury — 11 January 1986

The Wembury Guides held a lively jumble sale at the Village Hall from 2.30 to 4.30 pm, with entry priced at just five pence. Such events were a familiar feature of village life, raising funds for activities, uniforms, and community projects while drawing in residents for an afternoon of bargain hunting and conversation.

Throughout the 1980s, both the Wembury Guides and Brownies played a visible role in the village, often appearing at fêtes, harvest events, and local charity fundraisers. Their gatherings brought together generations of families and helped sustain the social fabric of Wembury at a time when traditional village networks still thrived.
