Hello fellow gardeners! Here’s our news update!
Wildlife Notice Board.
If you take a stroll along the National Trust permissive footpath at the Southern side of the allotments, you will find our brand new “Wildlife at Wembury Allotments” notice board!
It contains a wealth of information about the many and diverse types of wildlife you might see in and around the site. This work formed part of our Wilding project and involved the W.A.A. (us!) and Parklife SW with help and support from the National Trust and Yealm Community Energy.
Wildflowers
Wembury allotments feature a variety of wild flowers, including pink Herb Robert with its stems that redden in the sunlight, striking Red Campion, and the distinctive Yellow Rattle. Towering foxgloves with their tubular flowers add height and drama. These plants and many others enhance biodiversity, attracting pollinators and enriching our local ecosystem with their presence. Now is the best time to view them in full bloom. Look carefully and you might even spot some “Wild carrot”.
Possible future event
We plan to hold a BBQ event at lunchtime on Saturday 17th August, weather permitting, forming part of National Allotments week (12-18 August). Watch this space and our site for more information!
