Wildlife

Churchyards are recognised by conservationists as ecologically rich reserves. This is a rather blurry mobile phone photo, of a lesser stag beetle living in the rotten tree stump in the Quiet Garden. The larvae take several years to develop before reaching this stage of maturity and so its important to have such undisturbed 'untidy' habitats; unfortunately the stump has to go as a part of the proposed disabled access to the rear of the property. We have worked to create large unkempt "habitat piles" within the quiet Garden to contribute to the care of the natural environment. Look out for 'fox motorways', vole colonies, mole hills, regenerating elm and green woodpecker foraging. In the spring it is buzzing with many species of birds.
