After a “slight delay”, it was a wonderful sight to see a Tamworth AC team take to competition on a glorious sunny day in Telford. In a reduced programme 14 young athletes took part across the two age groups with 5 of them taking part in their first ever competition, and they all managed to cope with the challenges thrown at them; the heat, covid restrictions, and a timetable with numerous clashes.

Under 15 Girls

Our first U-15 girl to compete was Chloe Purkiss in the High Jump who had to join the competition midway without any warm-up and managed to jump an excellent 1.29m to finish 2nd. She then went straight onto her 800m to finish 5th in 3:23.1 and completed her day with a 1st place finish in the B string of the shot with a distance of 5.80m.

Sprinters Kirsten McLaren and Layla Burgess followed next in the 100m; where Kirsten recorded 13.9s for 2nd place in the A, and Layla recorded 14.9s for 3rd place in the B string. They both then reappeared for the 300m, with Kirsten timed at 45.8s for 2nd place in the A picking up an injury as she finished, and Layla recorded 49.8s for 4th place. Kirsten was able to carry on for her shot put recording a distance of 5.96m for 2nd place.
