There was disappointment for those who came along to The Smythe Hall in Stow Maries on Friday 15th February expecting to test a product from the Volkswagon car firm.

But the vast majority of attendees had a really fun evening!

Even those people who didn't have a clue what a 'Beetle Drive' was, seemed to enjoy the fun and games, fish and chip supper and a great social atmosphere.

The 'roll a (£1) coin at the whisky bottle' was a hugely popular interlude and contributed £55 towards the total amount of £268.50 raised from the event. This will go towards the upkeep of Stow Maries' St Mary & St Margaret church and Smythe Hall.

Grateful thanks go to all who contributed to the success of this event, but especially to Chris and John Dutfield for their original idea and overall administration and to Heather and Conrad Barnard for their suggestion of 'roll-at-the-whisky' and donation of that prize.

Who knows, the resounding success of this first attempt at a Beetle Drive, could mean we give it another go in future. (But can I have a dice with a 6 on it at my table next time?)
