A new study reveals a concerning trend among Gen Z — a generation deeply connected to technology but increasingly affected by it.

Research from AXA UK shows that 39% of Gen Z individuals feel the urge to check their phones even during conversations, and 34% report worsening mental health from using social media at night.

These findings highlight a growing issue: digital overstimulation and the impact of constant online connection on mental well-being.

๐Ÿ“ฑ What’s Happening?

Many young people today rely on social media for connection, entertainment, and even validation. But with apps designed to keep users scrolling, it’s no surprise that screen time is cutting into real-life interactions — and sleep.

Experts are concerned about the toll this takes on self-esteem, anxiety levels, and overall emotional health.

๐Ÿง  What Can Help?

Psychologists suggest setting clear boundaries, like:

  • Having phone-free meals or catchups with friends

  • Turning off notifications at night

  • Creating a “digital bedtime” — no screens 30–60 minutes before sleep

  • Practicing self-awareness around your screen habits

It’s all about regaining control over tech, rather than letting it control us.
