The Rothsay Ramblers is one of the activities offered by the Rothsay Education Centre and to be a Rambler you also need to belong to the REC. The Rothsay Ramblers are affiliated to the Ramblers’ Association and membership entitles you to discounts from some outdoor equipment stores on production of your REC receipt.

The Rothsay Ramblers, like other Ramblers’ Association groups, is member-led. Walks are planned and led by members; the committee are members; holidays and social events are arranged by members. We hope that new members will feel welcomed and enjoy the programme and that in time you might take your turn in helping to organise walks and events. We can help anyone interested in leading a walk – and would very much appreciate it! Details of all our activities are found on the website.

About the walks

Walks usually start and end at a pub or cafe within a 20-mile radius of Bedford and follow footpaths and bridleways through the countryside. The 5 mile Blue, Orange and Red walks and the 4 mile Jade walks start promptly at 10.30 am and the shorter 2 to 3 mile Green walks at 10.45 am. Longer walks of about 6 to 7miles are included in the Red programme from time to time and start at 10 am. We are grateful to pubs and cafes for use of their car parks and toilets, and there is an expectation that if you use their facilities you will have lunch or at least a drink there after the walk. The walks are sociable and a great way to meet new people and having lunch together is very much part of what we are about.

Please arrive in good time to allow for changing into walking boots - and also to order your lunch in the pub. Remember – please don’t wear your muddy boots in the pub!

As we have about 150 members, to keep numbers manageable we allocate people to groups. Your groups will have been chosen so that you can walk your preferred distance. We ask that you don’t change your group, but if you do need to, please contact the membership secretary. Jade walks are always open to all members. Your groups are         INSERT HERE

Walks are on Mondays throughout the year. Details of each walk are available on the walks programmes accessible on the members’ only section of our website. If you have not yet registered for the website, please follow this link: http://e-voice.org.uk/rothsayramblers. The weekly pattern includes three different walks, each with their own route and venue.

Changes to the programme

Occasionally, changes have to be made to the walks and you will receive an email or phone call to let you know. Changes will also be posted on the website.

Sometimes bad weather will cause walks to be cancelled – rain isn’t normally a cause for cancellation, but snow, ice and fog can be. If there is any doubt, check with the walk leader before setting out.

Visitors

Visitors and guests are welcome on walks but after 3 visits in the same year they need to take out their own membership.

Dogs

Dogs are not allowed on walks because of the risk of nuisance to farm animals. We have good relations with local landowners and we would wish to keep it that way!

Safety

Every care is taken in preparing and leading the walks and other activities in the Rothsay Ramblers programme, but participation by members and visitors is entirely at their own risk. No responsibility is accepted to an individual member for any form of accident or liability. Please read the safety advice for further information.

Data Protection

The REC and the Rothsay Ramblers will each retain your details on databases for REC and Ramblers purposes. The Ramblers will in addition make your details available to other members on the members’ only section of the website. If you wish to opt out, please contact the Membership Secretary.

We hope you enjoy your membership of the Rothsay Ramblers.     Please also read the safety advice.
