Walks at the Otterhead Estate

Most visitors enter the estate via the public footpath beside the privately owned Otterhead Lodge or from the adjoining Car Park. The estate can also be accessed from the south, to the east and west of the hamlet of Royston Water and from the Churchinford to Royston Water road by public footpath, east of Churchinford, along which stiles and probably cattle will be encountered.

Most rambling clubs in the area seem to visit the estate from time to time. The public footpaths and the other paths, old drives and tracks, all of which are only permissive, provide a variety of routes such as by the River Otter, the Otterhead Lakes and estate leats, through parts of the former gardens with heritage plants and through conifer plantations and woodland.

Here is a link to a walk partly through the estate:

Please note that the short part of the walk to the Royston Lake dam is now closed so leave the lakeside by means of the second footbridge.

Most of the estate walking routes are very muddy in places so appropriate footwear should be worn by visitors.
