Edward and Anne Platt
The Golden Lion has been a fully licensed Inn going back into the 18th Century when Edward and Anne Platt held the lease. Their son John took the lease over but died in 1811.
The Golden Lion changed hands several times, it was briefly owned by Ormskirk Brewery magnate Philip Forshaw.

In 1901 Alfred George Brown took over as licensee of the Golden Lion from Henry Twist Birchall. He must have been keen to improve his family's living quarters as in 1904 permission was granted to carry out structural alterations to provide better domestic accommodation and Mrs. Brown was advertising for "good general domestic help".
