What we do

The Mount Tabor Community Association constitution states that the aims of the group are to:

  • Co-ordinate, facilitate and assist Mount Tabor & District residents to make improvements to the local area;

  • Encourage community involvement and engagement in improving the area through activities such as litter picking; keeping community areas clean; and improving local green spaces;

  • Organise activities that are as inclusive as possible, taking into account the needs of the local demographic;

  • Fund raise and apply for grants to support the Group’s activities;
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the defibrillator for use as required within the local community

What does this mean? This means that we do lots of things!

Ongoing

Defibrilator - This is located on the outside of the Spring Head. We have several blue collection tins which help to support the upkeep of the defibrilator, and run regular checks, refilling and restocking the pads and batteries as necessary. We have also ran 2 sessions to increase local awareness of how to use it, and important and life saving Skill!

Litter picking - We have applied for grants and bought equipment for our volunteers to use for litter picking, and these take place monthly.

Community Connections - We currently run monthly cake and cuppa sessions, supported by Staying Well grants, to provide a warm space to meet and catch up.

Graveyard - You told us the buildings and graveyard were important to you, so we have a team who are researching, investigating and taking care of the graveyard for you. Generally keeping it tidy and maintaining pathways. We are working on a list of what graves are where and researching family histories.. please let us know if you have any information.

Fundraising - Check out our Whats on page for upcoming events, or have a look at our fundraising page for what we've already done!

You said, we did!

You asked for somewhere to find out whats going on and whats happening - we organised and installed a notice board on the corner by the bus stop.

You told us the Church, Sunday School and associated Buildings and land were important to you - we managed to successfully register it as an Assest of Community Value.

You asked for a local free library - with the power of community, we have installed one (the blue hut!) and set up another inside the sunday school!

You asked for exercise classes and more events - we brought you the Wellbeing Weekend!

You noticed the Japanese knotweed on the verges on Moorend Road, above the shop - we have informed the council and it is currently being treated.

Current Goals

- We are currently working on moving towards becoming a Private Company, limited by guarantee, with charitable status, to enable us to do more for you!

- Graveyard - war graves plague to be installed

- more connection and events.
