"Social contract theory and its shortcomings".

Tuesday 02 April 2013
18:00 to 19:30

Guy Woodall leads the discussion: "The Social Contract is really the only game in town in modern political theory, yet it is clearly false. What is it that drives philosophers as well as many politicians to espouse such an obviously mistaken theory? We’ll look at some of the basic principles of Enlightenment thinking and show how it is these rather than any observation of reality that give rise to the theory of the Social Contract, and why they are mistaken."

All are welcome to join in. Bridges evening entrance is from Kingston riverside, next to The Gazebo pub. Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6.00pm prompt start.
