Computers – will they succeed humans?
Wednesday 16 February 2011
19:00 to 21:00
What does it mean to be human? We talk a lot about how good and varied humans are at communicating, which is of the mind, but many issues are concerned with the body, e g climate change, health, old age, dementia. Computers are free of these constraints, learn in a different way, can pass on all their knowledge immediately to their offspring, evolve – and they are just at the beginning of their life. Maybe computers will be our successors, and how might that happen? Jeremy Smithers will lead a discussion exploring some of those issues.
The Ram Jam Club is at the back of the Grey Horse pub, and is open just for us on Kingston Philosophy Café evenings. Come along early to get a drink before discussion begins - and carry on talking afterwards in the pub.
