“Peter Singer, secular saint or utilitarian monster?”

Thursday 01 April 2010
18:00 to 19:25

Philosopher Peter Singer applies utilitarian ethics so rigorously to real life issues such as poverty, infanticide, and animal rights that he has become one of the most (in)famous and polarising of contemporary philosophers. Come along to find out more about Singer’s contribution to philosophy, particularly ethics, and to discuss whether it can ever be right to kill a baby or an aged parent, or to treat yourself to a luxury while there are starving people in the world. There will be extracts on the tables and plenty of time for group discussion.
