‘Disability and the Holocaust: We Shall Not Forget’ - Remembering the past and looking to the future. The suffering of nearly one million Deaf and disabled people persecuted, sterilised or killed by the Nazi regime is rarely the subject of public discussion. However, the hidden history of the persecution and death of disabled people during the Holocaust was given public recognition with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque on 11 May 2008. Led by local disability organisation, KCIL (Kingston Centre for Independent Living) and including IFF Vice-Chair, Lally Malik, a small group from Kingston joined more than 100 people at the unveiling at the Holocaust Centre (Beth Shalom) in Laxton, Nottinghamshire, to remember people who suffered at the hands of the Nazi regime. The event, entitled 'Disability and the Holocaust – We Shall Not Forget' took place on Sunday May 11, 2008.
