Textile banks closed until further notice

textile bank

All our textile banks will not be emptied until further notice.

We have received notice from LMB, our textile recycling bank contractor that they have closed their operations due to a decrease in market value, and textile banks will not be emptied.

Please store your unwanted clothing and textiles at home. We will keep residents updated when the banks re-open.

Please do not attempt to use the banks or leave any unwanted items next to them or bags on the floor as this is classed as illegal fly tipping, meaning items will not be recycled or reused and adds further pressure to our waste teams.

We are still continuing to collect glass bottles and jars from recycling banks and have even increased our collections, but if you do notice the bin is full, please help us by not leaving them on the ground and take home until your next visit.

Bin and recycling collections change this bank holiday

ve day

Since your collection calendar was delivered in August 2019, there have been changes made to the collection dates that were originally published.

As the usual early May bank holiday Monday has been changed to Friday 8th May and includes the weekend in order to commemorate VE Day 75, (the 75th anniversary of the formal end of World War II,) revisions have been made to the waste and recycling collection dates, to reflect this change.

Please see the table below for your revised collection date:

Thank you to all our local heroes

ruby

We may be apart but there's still some real heroes looking out for others - our community spirit has never been stronger.

Here's some of the stories we've recently shared:

  • Branocs Estate in Braintree offering a commission free service to front line health service and ambulance workers looking to move house after the lock down
  • Crofters Wine Bar in Witham delivered over 80 roast dinners for those self-isolating and weekly donations to Witham Community Hub
  • Pat Watson and Lynn Jefferies have put their sewing skills to use by producing scrubs and scrub bags for Broomfield Hospital
  • Matt Suckling who runs Wethersfield Club helping provide supplies to people in the village

If you know of a local hero we can shout about, email us at marketing@braintree.gov.uk.
